When I was working on the vessel form I had tried to force it into a shape it didn’t want to be in. As you can see in some of the below images, a divot formed in the wall as the needles wanted to move inward and I forced it back to an upright position. I ended up stripping that section out and reworked the vessel into the vase like form you see in the finished piece.

I wanted to give more attention to the lip of the vessel form, so I wrapped the edges in silk thread. This coupled with the depth of the vessel creates an even darker void space. I took some inspiration from Andy Goldsworthy’s “Hole” series here.
